Neighborliness - Week 4 - Servant to All People

Bottom Line: LOVING MY NEIGHBOR BY SERVING MY NEIGHBOR

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility.

It’s easy to say, ‘It’s not my child, not my community,

not my world, not my problem.’

Then there are those who see the need and respond.

I consider those people my heroes.”

                             Fred Rogers

Galatians 5:13(CSB)

“…serve one another through love.”

John 13:3-5(NLT)

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

Philippians 2:5-8(NLT)

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

No One Is Too Great to Serve

John 13:12-13(NLT)

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am.

Matthew 20:26-28(NIV)

Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

“God did not save me to be a sensation. He saved me to be a servant.”

John 13:14-16(NLT)

And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.

Jonah 2:9 (NLT)

But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.”

John 13:17(NLT)

Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

Romans 12:2b(NKJV)

…be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Next Step: choose to serve your neighbor with a servant’s heart

“Being a servant doesn’t necessarily mean having a lowly position; it means having a lowly heart.”
